IIR document

Absorption technique application perspective in the technology of fruit and vegetable storage.

Summary

The paper describes an installation which supplies simultaneously refrigeration, power and heat for a fruit and vegetable processing and storage facility. The installation also provides the gas necessary for producing modified atmospheres. The original energy is natural gas, the combustion of which supplies the heat necessary to operate a turbine driving a power generator. The residual heat is used in an absorption plant. Requirements of mechanical energy, and some of the refrigeration requirement, can be met with electric power. The cycle of electric power production and absorption cycle use only two fluids, water and ammonia. CO2 is also recovered for producing modified atmospheres useful for fruit storage. The diagram of the installation is given as well as performance data.
