Advanced technologies for evaluating sustainable low GWP refrigerants.
Author(s) : HEGEWALD J., KNABE M., GRIMM U., et al.
Summary
Besides novel synthetic low GWP refrigerants the focus turns back to alternative refrigerants and refrigerant blends. Considering synthetic refrigerants the term "low GWP" specifies a certain degree of thermo-chemical instability by design. On the other hand, by utilizing alternative refrigerants one is confronted with known problems, e.g. enhanced system pressures and flammability issues. In consequence, the claim of using low GWP refrigerants affords the complex verification of them and potentially arising refrigerant-lubricant systems. In this regard adapted analytical methods will be presented allowing the specification of the thermo-chemical stability of refrigerants. Furthermore, a holistic approach will be presented allowing the investigation of complex interactions between the working fluids and their compatibility with materials used in AC circuits. The thermo-chemical stability accompanied with changes in physicochemical properties, maintenance aspects, and wear problems of refrigerant-lubricant mixtures are studied to allow a comprehensive evaluation of them for practical considerations.
