Summary
Reduction of the noise level of distribution activities makes an important contribution to the improvement of the urban environment. Muffling noisy refrigeration systems has emerged as a significant aspect. A cooperative project involving small- and medium-sized enterprises within a programme generously subsidised by NOVEM (a Dutch organisation for energy and the environment) resulted in a prototype semitrailer with a new closed cryogenic system, based on liquid carbon dioxide as the refrigerant and an energy source for air circulation, and microcomputer control. Tests are being performed.
