Air conditioning heat pumps in retrofit installations.
Author(s) : FAHLEN P.
Type of article: Article
Summary
Installation of split-type air-conditioning heat pumps is now the most popular choice among viable energy conservation opportunities in private homes in Sweden. Some important aspects regarding the application of these heat pumps in the heating mode in retrofit installations in a cold climate must be considered. This may, for instance, concern performance under frosting conditions, auxiliary equipment to cope with low ambient temperatures and the efficiency of heat distribution when heat is supplied from a single fan-coil unit. Laboratory tests and investigations performed in actual houses to provide some background information for this type of installation, are described in the paper.
