Air-cooled adsorber design for an ammonia-water absorption heat pump.

Author(s) : KIM Y., KANG B. H.

Summary

Most of the absorption heat pumps adopt water-cooled condensers and absorbers. This is not suitable for small capacities. In order to design a small capacity absorption heat pump, e.g. for household applications, condenser and absorber should be an air-cooled type. At the absorber inlet, the ammonia-water mixture enters the tube as a mixture of saturated liquid and vapour. Absorption and condensation occur inside the tubes which are arranged horizontally. Heat is rejected to the air flowing across the tubes. The working fluid leaves the absorber as a subcooled liquid. Since the working fluid is a mixture, absorption and condensation occur with a temperature glide. Numerical analysis to study various parameters (fin shape and arrangement, condition of air) has been conducted. Results are given.
