AMONG THE CANDIDATES FOR SUBSTITUTION OF HALOCARBONS ARE SUBSTANCES LIKE CARBON DIOXIDE (R744) AND WATER (R718). CARBON DIOXIDE HAS AT LOW TEMPERATURES A POTENTIAL TO REPLACE EVEN AMMONIA, FOR WHICH THE USE IS HAMPERED BY SAFETY REGULATIONS. THE < DRY CARBON DIOXIDE PROCESS > OFFERS PERFORMANCE FIGURES CLOSE TO THOSE FOR AMMONIA, THE COMMONLY USED REFRIGERANTS R502, R13B1, R12 AND IS EVEN MUCH BETTER THAN R13. FOR TEMPERATURES AT AND ABOVE 0 DEG C, WATER VAPOUR IS A PERFECT ALTERNATIVE WITH SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE. BY COMBINING THE CARBON DIOXIDE CYCLES WITH A WATER VAPOUR CYCLE IN A CASCADE PROCESS, EQUAL -OR EVEN BETTER -COPS CAN BE OBTAINED.
