Summary

An experimental campaign on plate exchangers, used as evaporators and condensers in domestic refrigeration loops is presented in this paper. The purpose of the research is to test the influence of some thermal-hydraulic parameters on the overall heat transfer coefficient. R134a, R407C, R410A and R22 are the fluids tested under reference thermal conditions. The experimental tests lead to conclusions on the effect of substitution on the thermal and global efficiency of the plant. Also, a new method for calculating the thermodynamic mixture parameters is applied to the condensation of mixtures R407C and R410A and its benefit is evaluated. The overall performance of the refrigerant loop and the condenser global heat transfer coefficient are the parameters chosen to elucidate the characteristics of the alternative refrigerants (R134a, R407C, and R410A) with respect to the fluid that they are supposed to replace (R22).
