Summary
The author discusses the different technologies that have been used over the years, including those of CO2 and CFCs, for refrigerating equipment on ships. He explains the requirements of Lloyd's Register of Shipping for the use of ammonia and describes the ammonia equipment on board 5 ships built by the Danish, for which the rules of Lloyd's are observed. The device for absorbing ammonia in the event of a large leak is described; it includes a brine circuit.
