Ammonia water chillers: a new approach to a former technology.
Author(s) : JANSSON L.
Summary
After having dealt with the ozone and CFC problems, the author suggests their replacement by ammonia in chilled water production units. The properties of this refrigerant are reviewed. It is explained that the ammonia charge may be reduced by use of STAL plate exchangers, reducing the potential hazards due to ammonia leakage to the environment. STAL currently produces such units, equipped with screw compressors.
