Summary
Plate heat exchangers (PHEs) have been widely used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems as evaporators or condensers in chillers, respectively. Recently, according to use the water source heat pumps (WSHP), the same PHE is used as evaporators and condensers. In WSHP, flow direction of refrigerant can be changed by 4-way valve while water can't be. In this study, the effects of flow direction called as parallel and counter flow on heat transfer rate, pressure drop and exergy loss were investigated experimentally. The experiments were carried out for a brazed plate heat exchangers under parallel and counter flow conditions in evaporation and condensation. The experimental parameters in this study include the refrigerant 410A mass flux from 3 to 14 kg/m2s. Heat transfer rate, pressure drop and exergy analysis were obtained according to the experimental results.
