Summary

The effects of application of 1-MCP at different periods to persimmons (Diospyrus kaki 'Quioto') stored at -0.5 °C or in controlled atmosphere were evaluated. The following treatments were used: cold storage; cold storage plus 1-MCP (1000 p.p.b.) at the beginning of cold storage; cold storage plus 1-MCP at the end of storage; controlled atmosphere (1 kPa O2 and 5 kPa CO2); controlled atmosphere with 1-MCP at the end of storage. Storage was carried out for 2 months at -0.5 °C, plus 5 days at 10 °C and 3 days at 20 °C. In cold storage, 1-MCP applied at either the beginning or end of storage, increased pulp firmness. There were no significant differences between treatments for total soluble solids, rotting and darkening of peel.
