APPLICATION OF DOUBLY-FLUTED TUBES TO IN-TUBE ABSORPTION.

Summary

THE PAPER PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF IN-TUBE ABSORPTION IN TUBES OF 3 TYPES: 2 PLAIN TUBES AND ONE FLUTED. ALL THE TESTS WERE PERFORMED USING AMMONIA-WATER. TEST RESULTS INDICATE THAT SIGNIFICANT ENHANCEMENT CAN BE ACHIEVED USING FLUTED TUBES AND THE ENHANCEMENT FACTOR INCREASES WITH LIQUID FLOW RATE. THE INSIDE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IS INCREASED BY A FACTOR OF 5.9 FOR LIQUID REYNOLDS NUMBER ABOVE 4,000, AND OVERALL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT BY 2.3. FURTHER STUDIES ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN OPTIMAL GEOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS OF FLUTED TUBES.
