Summary
This thesis presented in view of obtaining a provisional examination for a CNAM degree in engineering in the energy field, summarizes the most important points on which efforts must be concentrated in order to make life cycle analysis a perfectly sound method. Research was carried out on life cycle analysis in order to set up eco-tools adapted to energy considerations in buildings and, given that these tools are not yet sound enough to be the subject of a study, the author chose to cover life cycle analysis according to two views. The first is overall, applicable to all types of systems. This is in order to seize the essence of life cycle analysis itself and all that it includes in terms of concepts, advantages and limits. The second view is based on examples of studies in the energy field. The first example concerns the production of a liquid refrigerant (HFC-134a); the second deals with a comparison between conventional and unconventional motors; and the latter is applied to an air conditioner and a heat pump by means of a study in which the aim is to establish the design basis of eco-tools for manufacturers of air-conditioning engineering equipment.
