AVAILABILITY OF PLATELET FACTOR-3 IN FROZEN PRESERVED HUMAN PLATELETS.

Summary

HUMAN PLATELETS WERE FROZEN-PRESERVED EITHER WITH 5% DMSO OR WITH 5% GLYCEROL AND 4% GLUCOSE. FROZEN-PRESERVED PLATELETS EXERTED A SHARP INCREASE OF PLATELET FACTOR-3 AVAILABILITY COMPARED TO FRESH, NORMAL PLATELETS. ACTIVATION OF FROZEN PLATELETS BY KAOLIN RESULTED IN A MODEST DECREASE OF CLOTTING TIME. CLOTTING TIME WAS VERY SHORT WITH GLYCEROL PRESERVED PLATELETS, WHICH IS PROBABLY DUE TO CHANGES IN PLATELET MEMBRANE STRUCTURE CAUSED BY GLYCEROL.
