Summary

AVAILABLE EQUATION TO DETERMINE THE MASS FLOWRATE OF IDEAL GAS IN AN ADIABATIC FLOW THROUGH A DUCT OF CONSTANT CROSS-SECTION IS MODIFIED AFTER INTRODUCING ISENTROPIC EXPONENTS CORRESPONDING TO A REAL GAS. MOST WIDELY USED AND COMPARATIVELY CHEAPER REFRIGERANTS R12, R22 AND R717 ARESELECTED FOR THE HEAT PUMP SYSTEM AND R13 FOR REFRIGERATION SUB-SYSTEM. THE RATES ARE COMPARED WITH IDEAL GAS RATES OVER A VARIETY OF OPERATING CONDITIONS AND A CONSIDERABLE LOSS OF ENERGY IS FOUND WITH BLOWBY RATES. THIS LOSS CAN BE AVERTED, IF A MICROPROCESSOR IS USED TO MONITOR INSTANTANEOUS REFRIGERANT MASS AT EVAPORATOR INLET.
