Boiling of hydrocarbons in small plate heat exchangers.

Author(s) : PELLETIER O., PALM B.

Summary

For the tested refrigerants, the logarithmic mean temperature differences in the heat exchangers were measured and the heat transfer coefficients calculated. The pressure drops were also measured and compared. It was found that, at equal heat flux, the heat transfer coefficients in the evaporator were up to 25% higher for hydrocarbons than for R22. The pressure drops were 25-40% lower for the hydrocarbons in the evaporator.
