COMMENTS ON TESTS CARRIED OUT IN THE LABORATOIRE DE PHYSIOLOGIE DES ORGANES VEGETAUX APRES RECOLTE (CNRS, MEUDON, FRANCE) SHOWING THE ADVANTAGE OF COMBINING THE COOLING OF PLANT PRODUCTS AND CONTROLLED-ATMOSPHERE STORAGE, ACCURATELY DETERMINING O2 AND CO2 LEVELS. HYPOBARIC STORAGE SEEMS TO BE AN IMPROVEMENT COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE; BUT IT BRINGS ABOUT BIG INVESTMENT COSTS AND IT IS STILL NOT USED IN EUROPE. STUDIES ARE BEING MADE ON THE ADVANTAGES OF AIR AND CONTROLLED-ATMOSPHERE STORAGE WITH HUMIDITY LEVELS NEAR SATURATION (97 TO 100%), A TECHNIQUE USED IN CANADA AND IN THE USA FOR THE STORAGE OF VARIOUS VEGETABLES. POSSIBILITY OF INTERMITTENT WARMING, DURING COLD STORAGE, MENTIONING THE PERIOD AND FREQUENCY OF WARMING, AND OF A PERIODICAL BRIEF INCREASE IN CO2 LEVEL. G.G.
