Canadian icebreaker's steam-turbo conversion to diesel-electric.
Type of article: Periodical article
Summary
The article describes in some detail the conversion of a Canadian icebreaker from a steam turbo-electric plant to a diesel electric system. The original triple-screw steam driven direct-current propulsion plant has been replaced by a 3 phase alternating-current/direct-current installation with contemporary converters and associated controllers and control techniques. Because of financial constraints the three existing 6.7 megawatt propulsion motors were retained. G.R.S.
