Type of article: Article
Summary
A few years ago fewer than 10% of all cars in Europe were air-conditioned; this is expected to rise to 50% by the year 2000. Considering the global warming effect, R134a may not be the best solution. Experiments are being carried out on CO2 and hydrocarbons. The advantages and disadvantages of these solutions are discussed in the article.
