Summary

Elf Atochem developed HFC and HCFC mixtures in order to permit R12, R500 and R502 substitution, in new plants as well as in existing plants. After introducing all the substitution options that Elf Atochem proposed, the authors give examples of successful conversions by equipment manufacturers or users. For each example, a comparison of the performance obtained with the original refrigerant and with the Forane mixture is given. Results show that R12 can be replaced by R403A and R502 by R408A (or by R404A as an alternative).
