Summary
The refrigeration plant of a -25 deg C 10,000 m3 cold store is made up of 8 R502 independent units each with a 17 kilowatt refrigerating capacity at -30/35 deg C. An in situ experiment was carried out to compare refrigerants, retrofitting one of the units with FX70 and an other with FX10, the 6 other units operating with R502. The author describes methods (and times) of both retrofittings, with oil substitution for the unit operating with FX70 (with 3 flushings) and no oil substitution for the other one. Simultaneous results of the refrigerant comparison are given in a table of 45 plant parameters which shows little difference between the 3 refrigerants. J.R.
