Author(s) : LORENZ M. R., GOSWAMI D.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE DESIGN OF PRESENT AND FUTURE WATER CHILLERS FOR AIR-CONDITIONING APPLICATIONS MUST TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE OZONE DEPLETION PROBLEM AND ITS EFFECT ON REFRIGERANT AVAILABILITY. THE USA ARE IMPOSING ADDITIONAL TAXES, INCREASING YEARLY, ON ALL USERS OF CFCS AND THEIR EVENTUAL PHASE-OUT WILL OCCUR BY 2000. DESIGNING FOR BEYOND 2000 REQUIRES CONSIDERATION OF OTHER REFRIGERANTS AND ALTERNATIVE SYSTEMS. THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES VARIOUS OPTIONS, INCLUDING THE USE OF CFCS AND THEIR PLANNED REPLACEMENT, CHANGING TO AMMONIA SYSTEMS, AND THE ALTERNATIVE OF USING ABSORPTION PLANTS. D.W.H.
