CFD application in cryogenic turbines design and testing.

Author(s) : KUNDERA R., CERVENKA B.

Summary

Detailed 3D flow analyses using CFD software were carried out on small-size cryogenic helium turbines. Velocity, pressure and entropy fields through whole turbine flow ducts were computed, analysed and are presented. The influence of the Reynolds number on energetic losses, efficiency and flow structure was investigated in terms of in-house turbines testing on warm air and results are described. The magnitude of air pressure level suitable for testing is discussed and recommended. A comparison of integral turbine efficiency values with experimental data is given.
