Summary

Binary and ternary near-azeotropic blend of HFCs are considered the most promising possibilities of finding substitutes for CFCs and HCFCs in the absence of a pure-fluid drop-in. Through suitable proportioning of the components, it is possible to obtain a non-flammable blend, even when using a flammable fluid. The criteria for formulating the composition of a ternary blend of R134a, R32 and R125 as a substitute for R502 are discussed in detail. E.F.
