Summary
Characteristics of a cascade refrigerating system, with R13 and its substitute R23 as the lower-temperature-side refrigerant, are compared. It was found that: 1) replacement of R13 with R23 results in almost the same cycle performance; 2) R23 requires much more compressor cooling; 3) selection of refrigerant oils for R23 is important.
