Genetron passes aerospace industry's refrigerant test.
Type of article: Article
Summary
A US company operating extremely low-temperature test chambers to simulate working conditions for aerospace instruments and systems has changed to non-CFC refrigerants. The cascade systems involved used R13 and R502. These have been replaced by AZ50, a 50-50 mixture of R125 and R143a, and R23. Reciprocating compressor lubricants were also changed to polyolester lubricants. The retrofitting has proved completely successful with low temperatures being attained and held with no noticeable change in efficiency. D.W.H.
