Charge minimization in hydrocarbon systems.

Author(s) : HOEHNE M., HRNJAK P.

Summary

The paper presents the results of the project to minimize the charge in a R290 system that has 1-1.5 kW refrigeration capacity. The major reduction of the charge was achieved by using microchannel heat exchangers. The system presented is charged with around 120 g. Analysis and new prototypes indicate that in the next step it will be possible to go below 50 g/kW at 1 kW basis. Besides experimental results, the paper presents analysis of the charge location, both in off and on condition. The results of the system model are compared to the experiments and indicate good prediction of capacity and charge.
