Summary

For the air conditioning of Deutsche Bahn AG's third generation ICE 3 trains, a cold air conditioning system was designed and a prototype version tested on an ICE 1 testbed car in regular operation from summer 1995 onwards. In a closed cold air circuit the process air is compressed in two stages and depressurised in a single stage. The heat from the car and the fresh air is transferred to the process air via a heat exchanger and, together with the compression heat, is passed to the outside air via an ambient air heat exchanger.
