Summary

Results concerning metropolitan France. For quick-frozen products, an increase of over 72,000 tons (about 5%), is noticed in 1992. The explanation lies in new products, product diversification, improved publicity and domestic equipment, including microwave ovens (38%). Restaurant business is promising for the years to come. Similar developments for ice cream (+ 5.4% and 305 million litres), for similar reasons and outlook. The public coldstore network, 228 (5.7 million m3) on December 31, 1992, continued to develop, to improve and to restructure, at the expense of major investment (13% of turnover). Important changes in the STEF, the CEGF and the "Financière de l'Atlantique" partnerships give this sector a new look. Controlled temperature road transport (over 73,000 vehicles) continued to improve. Distribution emphasized home sales, freezer-centres (900 on January 1, 1993) in the whole trade sector (100 companies, 14 billions) and distribution platforms (90% of the hyper- and supermarkets' supply).
