Summary

THE TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF COLD CHAIN CONTROL ARE DISCUSSED AS IT APPLIES DURING BOTH TRANSPORT AND STORAGE OF FROZEN FOODS. TEMPERATURE CONTROL EQUIPMENT AT LOADING, TRANSPORT AND DISCHARGE CONSISTS OF A BATTERY-OPERATED ELECTRONIC THERMISTOR CONNECTED TO A NUMBER OF SENSOR PROBES DISTRIBUTED IN THE CRITICAL POSITIONS WITHIN THE FROZEN FOOD LOAD. THE MEMORIZED TEMPERATURE DATA ARE READ ON A PERSONAL COMPUTER AT THE DESTINATION, SHOWING THE POSSIBLE QUALITY DEFECTS. COLD ROOM PERFORMANCE IS CONTROLLED BY A CENTRALIZED PC WHERE TEMPERATURE DATA OF PERIPHERIC THERMOPROBES ARE COLLECTED AND DISPLAYED IN REAL TIME. THE SYSTEMS ARE CLAIMED TO ENSURE THE ACCURATE CONTROL OF THE COLD CHAIN AT A MODERATE COST. A. P.
