Summary
MANY PLANTS OF TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL ORIGIN ARE INJURED WHEN EXPOSED TO TEMPERATURES BELOW 283 K (10 DEG C) BUT ABOVE FREEZING. THERE IS VERY LITTLE EVIDENCE ON THE REAL MECHANISM CAUSING THIS DISORDER AND A SURVEY ON SEVERAL HYPOTHESIS IS MADE IN THIS NOTE. ADDITIONAL STUDIES ARE RECOMMENDED FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE MOLECULAR MECHANISM OF CHILLING INJURY.
