Summary

Research on postharvest diseases of sweet potato has been limited, particularly in relation to tropical settings. Postharvest diseases are Rhizopus soft rot, Java black rot, Fusarium root rot, bacterial root rot, and black rot. Current approaches to controlling postharvest diseases are outlined. Recently, methods have been developed for screening for storage rot resistance and resistant sweet potato germplasm has been identified. Future prospects for postharvest disease control research on sweet potato are discussed.
