Summary
A 10,000 tonne cold store operating at -30 deg C of which 2,000 tonnes is available at a temperature of -60 deg C is described. The insulation is 300 mm polystyrene and refrigeration of the -60 deg C section is by an ammonia/R22 cascade system. It is protected by a -30 deg C airlock and defrosting is by recirculated, electrically heated air, during which the coolers are separated from the cold store by a hydraulically operated flap. G.R.S.
