Comparative assessment of HFC-134a and some refrigerants as alternatives to CFC-12.

Author(s) : DEVOTTA S., GOPICHAND S.

Type of article: Article, IJR article

Summary

A composite plot relating evaporating temperature, condensing temperature, pressure ratio and theoretical Rankine coefficient of performance is presented for R134a. The theoretical performance of R134a has been comparatively assessed along with R22, R134, R152a, R124 and R142b as alternatives to R12 by using the standard refrigeration parameters including pressure ratio, specific compressor displacement, theoretical Rankine coefficient of performance, shaft power per ton of refrigeration. A discussion of the practical implications of the choice of the alternatives to R12 is also presented.
