Comparison of explosion energies in residential air-conditioning systems based on HCFC-22 and CO2.

Author(s) : PETTERSEN J.

Summary

In this paper, the explosion energies of a baseline HCFC-22 system and CO2 system are calculated and compared. The data are based on ductless split air conditioning systems of equal size and capacity. Results show that the explosion energies of the two systems are comparable at initial temperatures around 60 °C although operating pressures are very different. At higher temperature, the explosion energy of the HCFC-22 system becomes higher than the CO2 system, while the situation is reversed at lower temperatures.
