Author(s) : CASANOVA E.

Type of article: Article, IJR article

Summary

The cooling of concrete is very important for technical and economic reasons during the construction of large dams, particularly in hot climates. Some 12 million m3 of cooled concrete is being processed for construction of the largest hydroelectric power station in the world (12600 MW), in South America, which necessitates large-scale concrete processing plants. The overall design, operation and detailed construction of the huge refrigerating installations are described. The necessity of cooling the concrete is dealt with, as are the possible methods for so doing.
