Condensation heat transfer of a pure fluid and binary mixture in a bundle of smooth horizontal tubes: comparison of experimental results and classical models.

Summary

The condensation of a pure fluid (HFC-134a) and a mixture (HFC-134a/HFC-23) on a bundle of smooth tubes was studied to characterize the behaviour of the new refrigerant. The test section contained a 13 x 3 staggered bundle of copper tubes and allowed measurements of cooling water temperature, vapour temperature and entrance composition of the mixture. The experimental heat transfer data of the binary mixture HFC-134a/HFC-23 show the important effects of the temperature glide and the difference with respect to the heat transfer coefficient of the pure fluid.
