Condensation of "Freon" binary mixture outside a bundle of tubes.

Summary

The article deals with the condensation of a non-azeotropic binary mixture outside a bundle of horizontal tubes. Firstly, the experimental apparatus is presented. Two tube types were tested: smooth tubes and finned tubes. The composition of the mixture of R134a and R23 was varied to produce temperature glides between 8 and 20 K. These experiments showed the influence of the composition of the more volatile component, the geometry of the tubes, and the inundation effect. Furthermore, the experimental data of the binary mixture were compared with previous experiments which tested one of the pure fluids that compose the mixture. A drastic decrease of the heat transfer coefficient was observed in comparison with the heat transfer coefficient of the pure fluid R134a. Also, the behaviour of the heat transfer coefficient is totally different from the one of the pure fluid. Some attempts to explain these physical phenomena are given in order to try to understand the behaviour of the heat transfer coefficient of the non-azeotropic binary mixture.
