CONTAINERS AND SWAP BODIES FOR THE CRYOGENIC TRANSPORTATION OF ATMOSPHERIC GASES IN EUROPE.

CONTENEURS ET CAISSES MOBILES POUR LE TRANSPORT CRYOGENIQUE DES GAZ DE L'AIR EN EUROPE.

Author(s) : DESPERIER J. M.

Summary

THE WORLDWIDE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CRYOGENIC TRANSPORTATION OF ATMOSPHERIC GASES IN CONTAINERS OR SWAP BODIES STARTED 10 YEARS AGO. ORIGINALLY, THE WEIGHT OF AN ISO 20' CONTAINER WAS LIMITED TO 24 TONNES, BUT THE NEW EUROPEAN REGULATIONS NOW ADMIT MUCH HIGHER WEIGHTS: 32 TONNES BY ROAD AND UP TO 36 TONNES BY RAILWAY. SINCE THE AUTHORIZED LOADS HAVE INCREASED SHARPLY, THE MANUFACTURERS TEND TO REACH A MAXIMAL NET CONTENT THAT CAN BE REGISTERED FOR STANDARDIZED DIMENSIONS, WHILE LOOKING FOR THE MINIMAL TARE AND ALLOWING AN AUTONOMY OF MORE THAN 3 WEEKS. A METHOD FOR OPTIMIZATION IS PRESENTED, BASED ON A CONCRETE EXAMPLE.
