Summary

Though limited success was found with freezing oocytes, embryos and larvae of Crassostrea gigas, it was significant that a few frozen oocytes were fertilized after thawing and developed into D-larvae on two occasions. Pre-treatment of material before freezing is critical and using reduced salinity sea water after thawing of the material is advisable.
