Summary
A high concentration of cryoprotectant is used for vitrification to keep organs in an amorphous state, thereby avoiding mechanical injuries due to ice crystal growth. In order to vitrify organs, it is necessary to perfuse organs with high concentrations of cryoprotectant, resulting in toxicity of cryoprotectants as the major obstacle of vitrification. However, using UW solution as the vehicle, it became possible to obtain a week survival of rat liver after perfusion with a concentration of cryoprotectant as high as 7.5 M/L, which is similar to the concentration for vitrification.
