Debut for small Coldisc ice-maker.

Type of article: Article

Summary

A new small compact ice-maker was on display at Fish Expo '93 in Seattle, USA. Water is sprayed on a rotating, refrigerated, stainless steel disc where it freezes and is scraped off by a stationary blade, producing flat ice flakes. The machine occupies approximately a 500 mm cube, and can be mounted on the hatch cover of a fish hold on a boat as small as 15 m long. The machine may be driven at variable speeds to suit different climates and will produce 1 tonne of ice per 24 hours. Other uses include fresh fish sales in supermarkets, small wholesalers and fish farmers. D.W.H.
