Summary

A BRIEF ACCOUNT IS GIVEN OF CURRENT STUDIES ON STORAGE OF DEEP-FROZEN EWES' MILK BEING MADE AT THE READING LABORATORY. RAW MILK WAS FILLED INTO 250 MILLIL PLASTIC CARTONS TO A DEPTH OF APPROXIMATELY 5 CM AND STORED AT 261, 253 OR 246 K (-12, -20, OR -27 DEG C). AT INTERVALS, SAMPLES ARE BEING ANALYSED FOR TOTAL FAT, PROTEIN AND LACTOSE CONTENTS, TOTAL BACTERIAL COUNTS, COLIFORMS AND PSYCHROTROPHIC BACTERIA AND SOMATIC CELL COUNTS. PRELIMINARY RESULTS INDICATE THAT 261 K IS NOT ADEQUATE FOR SUCCESSFUL LONG-TERM STORAGE OF EWES' MILK. (DAIRY SCI. ABSTR., GB., 49, N 7, 1987/07, 540, 4721.
