Summary
IN 1983 IT WAS DECIDED TO INSTALL A HEAT PUMP WITH A TWO-STAGE CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR HAVING A NOMINAL CAPACITY OF 11 MW. OPERATING SINCE OCTOBER 1984, IT PRODUCED 23,000 MWH HEAT IN 2,630 HRS, WITH AN AVERAGE COP OF 2.9. AS THE HEAT SOURCE, FILTERED SEWAGE WATER WAS USED, COOLED IN A SHELL AND TUBE EVAPORATOR. THE BAD QUALITY OF SEWAGE WATER RESULTED IN A VERY RAPID FOULING OF THE EVAPORATOR, THUS REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF AN AUTOMATIC CLEANING SYSTEM.
