EXPERIENCE WITH 2 LARGE SEA WATER HEAT PUMPS AT LIDINGO, SWEDEN.

Summary

AT LIDINGO, THE SWEDISH STATE POWER BOARD DESIGNED FOR DISTRICT HEATING A PLANT WITH A TWO-STAGE TURBOCOMPRESSOR WITH A THERMAL CAPACITY OF 11 MW AND A SCREW COMPRESSOR PLANT WITH A THERMAL CAPACITY OF 2 X 1.5 MW. THE HEAT PUMPS ARE SUPPLEMENTED BY THREE OIL-FIRED BOILERS AND TWO ELECTRIC BOILERS. IN 1984, HEAT PRODUCTION WAS 60 GWH FOR THE 11 MW HEAT PUMPS AND 12.5 GWH FOR THE 3 MW PLANT. SEASONAL COP'S WERE 2.78 AND 2.62. THE WELDING OF THE 11 MW HEAT PUMP EVAPORATOR WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED AS FOR A LARGE NUMBER OF STAINLESS STEEL PANELS AFTER AN OPERATING TIME OF ONLY 100 HRS. THE CAUSE APPEARED TO BE AN UNKNOWN SUSCEPTIBILITY TO CORROSION WHICH CAN BE PREVENTED BY WELDING IN AN INERT GAS.
