Design of heat exchangers for a CO2 process heat pump.

Author(s) : SIEVERS U.

Summary

In supercritical fluid extraction plants, both cooling and heating are required at the same time. In the absence of a ready supply of cooling water at an adequately low temperature, a transcritical CO2 heat pump may considerably reduce the overall energy requirement. The heat pump working fluid is passed directly through the heater and the evaporator of the extraction plant, whilst the condenser of the extraction plant is cooled by an intermediate cold water cycle, which is cooled in the evaporator of the heat pump.
