Summary

An absorption air-conditioning system is developed for bus to replace those using a compressor. In a vehicle, a large amount of heat loss exists in cooling the engine and in exhaust gases. These available heat sources can be used for thermo-chemical compression. This work is the subject of a project named CLIMAIRIS in collaboration with a bus manufacturer. In order to evaluate the potential of this type of application, a state of the art has been made to determine the feasibility of the project. For the air-conditioning of a bus, cooling requirement in the evaporator is equals to 15 kW. In this case, the heating that is needed in the generator is almost 37.5 kW and the power that is needed to evacuate is almost 52.5 kW. The heat available on the bus is insufficient and an auxiliary burner is necessary. A reduction of CO2 emissions is obtained with this absorption system.
