Summary

In a thermal storage system, a high thermal conductivity of phase change material (PCM) is required to complement the crystallization phenomenon during the phase change period of the PCM. In this study, PCM materials with multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and Graphene are developed and the thermal conductivity of the PCM with the MWCNT is measured for thermal storage system application with the working temperature of 71?. When the MWCNT and Graphene are added to the PCM, the solution dispersion stability of the nano PCMs (PCM + carbon additives) is ensured by using an ultrasonic disrupter. The thermal conductivity of the nano PCMs is measured by the transient hot-wire method. In this paper, it is expected that the thermal conductivity of the PCM is enhanced by adding the MWCNT and Graphene at liquid state. Also the effect of polyvinylpyrrolidone as a dispersion stabilizer of the MWCNT on the thermal conductivity of nano PCMs is evaluated. In conclusion, the positive effect in application for thermal storage system is expected from the enhancement of thermal conductivity by adding the MWCNT and Graphene to the PCM.
