Domestic refrigeration in transition.

Author(s) : ROKE L., PARKER D.

Summary

This report describes the pressures on the domestic refrigeration industry in recent years and the subsequent effects. It is shown how the difference between academic and commercial research has influenced information and its distribution. Requirements due to stratospheric ozone depletion and fears concerning the greenhouse effect are examined (for instance, CFC and HCFC elimination, the improvement of equipment efficiency). The paper gives results on R134a use in new refrigerating equipment and alternative solutions (including mixtures) for existing systems. All the envisaged solutions for R11 replacement in rigid polyurethane insulants are considered. Tests on the insulating properties of new methods are described and results are given.
