Summary

THE STUDY LOOKS AT THE DYNAMIC OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS OF A REFRIGERATION EVAPORATOR WHOSE MAIN COMPONENT IS A GILLED HEAT EXCHANGER. A MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF THE OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE COLD RESERVOIR IS DEVELOPED. SPECIAL ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO PHASE CHANGES ON THE FINN EMPIRICAL DATA IS CITED TO CONFIRM THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL. THE MODEL IS USED IN A SIMULATION OF THE DYNAMIC OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS UNDER VARYING LOAD CONDITIONS OF A VAPOUR COMPRESSOR UNIT WHICH INCORPORATES THIS COLD RESERVOIR. A COMPARISON IS MADE WITH A CONVENTIONAL FLOW-THROUGH COOLER. FINALLY, THE COLD RESERVOIR DESIGN AND A BRINE ACCUMULATOR ARE COMPARED IN TERMS OF THEIR COST EFFECTIVENESS.
